Our Story
The tradition of apple butter goes back to my immigrant Polish grandmother’s early days in Wilmington, DE. I was raised on apple butter, Polish Placki (pronounced ‘platski’) (potato pancakes) and wonderful food filled gypsy memories of my adventures with ‘gran’.
Fast forward to the summer of 2020, my son and I found ourselves on lockdown for over 18 months. Twice a week we were gratefully afforded free school meals and within each of these packages were approximately 8-10 apples and sometimes more. Mommy & Danny's Homemade Apple Butter was born over the Covid 19 Pandemic lockdown out of an effort to not waste perishable food, a love for cooking and creating memories together as a family.
For the last three years, Mommy & Danny's Homemade Apple Butter has been tested, modified, tasted and perfected. The entire apple butter process is a very labor intensive ‘labor of love’, as the organic apples are hand-picked, cored, peeled, cut, washed and then slow cooked as my son and I take turns stirring the fragrant boiling apple mixture with wooden spoons.
